As I am writing this, the temperatures are starting to finally cool down. Welcome to Fall – the changing leaves are always beautiful in Minnesota. We could use a few more smiling faces at our meetings. All are welcome! The meeting starts at 7:00 PM, and I try very hard to not go over 35-45 minutes.
Due to the ever increasing costs of producing and mailing the newsletter, it has been dicided to go with putting our articles on the Post’s webpage (www.vfw-6587.org). We will try to do updates at least monthly. More often if something urgently needs your attention. For those that do not have internet access, please feel free to contact me. I will get you a hard copy of the current articles. Hard copies of the calendar of events will also be available at the Post Home.
Please plan to to join us as your schedule allows. To see a list of the calendar of events click on calendar/events tab.
Fall brings several scholarship opportunies for our students. The Patriot’s Pen Essay contest for the 6th – 8th grade students, and the Voice of Democracy for the 9th – 12th grade students. This year’s topics are listed further back in this newsletter. Brochures can also be found on the VFW’s National website. The student does not have to go the a school to participate. They can bring their entry directly to the Post by November1st. Home schooled students are also welcome and encouraged to apply for these contests. If you should have any question, please feel free to contact me or the commander.
If you are an Annual Member, your dues are now payable to Treasure Dana Slimmer. An increase in the Life Membership cost was approved at the National Convention. If you are considering going to a Life Membership, please do so before the increase takes effect on January 1st, 2017. It’s a big jump for us.
